What is a recurring invoice?

A pre-scheduled invoice that's automatically generated and sent at fixed intervals (weekly, monthly, quarterly) to the same customer for the same service. Common in SaaS, AMC, gyms, coaching, rentals.

Benefits over manual billing

No missed invoices, predictable cash flow, and zero "I forgot to bill" embarrassment. Customers know when to expect the bill — fewer disputes.

GST compliance for recurring invoices

Each recurring invoice must still meet GST format requirements — unique sequential number, current date, GST breakup. The supply date is the date the recurring invoice is issued, not the original setup date.

How to set it up in a billing app

In BillBabu: create the invoice once → mark "Recurring" → choose frequency and start date → save. The system auto-generates and emails/WhatsApps the invoice every cycle.

Tips

Add a UPI link or autopay mandate to convert recurring billing into recurring payments. Review the recurring list quarterly to remove churned customers and update price changes.
