Rates in force since 22 September 2025, checked on 4 October 2026. Special rates such as 3% (gold and silver) and 0.25% (rough diamonds): type them in “Other rate”.
How the calculation works
Adding GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100, and the total = amount + GST. ₹10,000 at 18%: GST is ₹1,800, total ₹11,800.
Removing GST from a price that includes it: amount before GST = price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), and GST = price − amount before GST. ₹11,800 including 18%: ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000, so the GST is ₹1,800.
| Rate | GST on ₹10,000 | Total | Same state: CGST + SGST |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0% | ₹0 | ₹10,000 | ₹0 + ₹0 |
| 5% | ₹500 | ₹10,500 | ₹250 + ₹250 |
| 18% | ₹1,800 | ₹11,800 | ₹900 + ₹900 |
| 40% | ₹4,000 | ₹14,000 | ₹2,000 + ₹2,000 |
Price with GST vs without GST
Shops often quote a price “with GST” (MRP-style, tax included) to consumers and “plus GST” to businesses. On a GST bill you show both: the taxable value before tax and the GST on top. If your selling price includes GST, use “Remove GST” to find the taxable value to write on the bill.
CGST + SGST or IGST: which applies
It depends on the place of supply. If it is in the same state as your business, the GST is split half and half into CGST (to the Centre) and SGST (to the state). If it is in another state, the whole GST is IGST. In a union territory without a legislature, UTGST takes the place of SGST. The total tax is the same either way.
